Kaley Cutting — a lover of all things antique, thrifted, and farmhouse-esque — shares her kitchen remodel and love for her new Northstar refrigerator.
For the past 12 years, Kaley Cutting had been sharing her love of fashion and design online. She started as a fashion blogger, but always knew she wanted to do interior design. When she bought her first house, she knew it was time to turn it into a home. And she wanted to start sharing the process. So, in 2016, that’s exactly what she did.
A love of everything vintage
”I’ve loved decorating since I was a teenager. It’s something I’ve loved forever. It was something that takes time, and it does take time to learn your style and what works for your house.
A year after we bought our first house, I started more modern farmhouse, but it clicked really quickly that I Iiked the vintage style. So around 2017 was when I really started playing around with the vintage side of design. Antique or Vintage farmhouse — all things old.
Because I live in New England, we have a lot of great antique shops, but I also love looking for modern-vintage things on Etsy or any local shops. “
Today, Kaley shares her home decor and inspo on her Instagram account, @thelittlewhitefarmhouse.
A vintage look in a modern kitchen
“I’ve always wanted a vintage kitchen appliance, and Elmira immediately jumped out to me.
Elmira’s appliances are very unique. Everything is handmade, their collections are very well thought out. I love Elmira’s pieces. You can’t find anything like their kitchen appliances at any other brands.
Elmira’s pieces perfectly combine the look and feel of vintage with the modern features everyone loves. I have a beautiful fridge now that fits into the vibe of my space, but it is still efficient and has a water filter in it and all other modern touches. “
“[The Elmira Northstar fridge] is the nicest fridge I’ve ever had in my life.”
When it comes to design, trial and error is key
“When you’re getting started in design, the best piece of advice I can give is to just try. That’s why Iove DIY so much, and our own kitchen was very much a trial and error of figuring out what works. You can always change something if you don’t like it but without that risk, you’ll never discover what your taste is.
Everything is more expensive if you want to hire someone to do it — almost triple the cost. When I started documenting our experience updating our home, my big push was to show DIY to people and to help them see how approachable it is. Because it really is! It’s easy to do it, you just need to get started.
You don’t need to take down a bunch of walls to transform your space.”
