Elmira Stove Works Founder, Tom Hendrick, supplied wood burning cook stove parts to local Mennonites from his hardware store in Elmira, Ontario. In 1975, Tom saw an opportunity to supply complete cookstoves to the local market and beyond. He purchased the tooling for the iconic Findlay Oval cookstove from the historic Findlay Foundry in Carlton Place, Ontario and moved manufacturing into a former chicken barn just outside of Elmira.

After 25 years of supplying this turn-of-the-century styling – now expanded to include kitchen ranges, fridges, wall ovens, microwaves and dishwashers - to the local Mennonite community and beyond, Elmira’s Founder had an epiphany. Possibly there would also be a market for the classic midcentury modern styling of the 50s.

He made a major investment and assembled a team of engineers and designers and created the beautiful Northstar line of midcentury-styled appliances that Elmira still proudly offers today.

Throughout this entire history, and continuing today, every Elmira appliance is lovingly handcrafted.
