Elmira ranges are made “from the ground up” in our manufacturing facility in Ontario, Canada. We use readily available high-end functional components, so that service and repair parts are straightforward.

How do I stop the clock from flashing so I can use the control panel (if the clock is flashing after a power surge or outage)?
  • Press the clock button and set the clock,
  • If that doesn’t work, press and hold the Lock / Stop button,
  • If that doesn’t work, turn off the power to the range at the breaker for 15 minutes, turn the breaker back on, then set the clock,
  • If that doesn’t work, call Elmira at 800-295-8498 for further assistance.
How do I clean the glass cooktop on my smoothtop or induction range?

Spills should be wiped up immediately when the cooktop has cooled. The cooktop can be cleaned with commercially-available ceramic cooktop cleaner. Heavy spills can be removed carefully with a razor window scraper. Cerama Bryte™ offers a kit that includes cleaner, scrub pad and scraper.

How do I stop my ignitors from sparking continuously?
  • If ignitors won’t stop sparking for a NEW installation, the outlet is probably not wired correctly. Have an electrician check the wiring.
  • If ignitors won’t stop sparking and it’s not a new installation, verify whether there has been a spill or boil-over. If so, remove the grates and burner caps and allow the ignitors to dry completely for 24 hours. This process can be sped up using a hair dryer. Check that there is no lint or food debris on the ignitors. Ignitors can be cleaned with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, brushing very gently in a circular motion.
How, and how often, should I clean my exhaust filters?

The mesh filter cage can be cleaned with soap and water. The charcoal filter should be changed approximately every six months, depending on use.

Refrigerators

Where are Heritage refrigerators made?

The base units for our Heritage fridges are made in North America. The units are painted in Canada, and the fiberglass door panels are formed, polished, painted and installed in Canada. The decorative door handles and door frames are also polished, plated and installed in our manufacturing facility in Canada.

Can the hinge on the fridge be changed from right to left, or vice-versa, once the fridge is built?

No, the hinge can’t be changed in the field. The required hinge placement must be specified when the fridge is ordered.

Microwaves

Can the microwave be built into the cabinets? Is there a trim kit available?

Technically you should allow 3” of space on both sides and 2” of space above the microwave. There is no trim kit available, but you can have a louvred insert built by your contractor or handyman to decorate the gap.

Is there a digital clock on the range?

A digital clock appears when you are setting the clock or a timer. It disappears shortly after that function is complete.

My analog and digital clock don’t match.  Read these steps a few times first, as you will need to follow them fairly quickly.
  1. Press the SELECT button 5 times. The digital clock indicator will illuminate.
  2. Press the UP and DOWN buttons at the same time until you hear a beep.
  3. Press the UP or DOWN button until the analog hands reach 12:00.
  4. When you hear a beep, press the SELECT button 5 times. Clock indicator will illuminate.
  5. Push the UP or DOWN button until the digital display shows the correct time of day.
  6. When you hear the beep this time the hands will automatically adjust to the correct time of day. The digital clock indicator will disappear.

Fireview Cookstoves

How much square footage can the Fireview heat?

The Fireview cookstove, burning dry well-seasoned hardwood, produces between approximately 30,000 and 60,000 BTUs of heat. It can heat up to about 1,800 square feet. The actual capacity will depend on:

  • The quality and quantity of the wood being burned. Dry well-seasoned hardwood will provide the best results,
  • The height of the ceilings. Cubic footage is more important than square footage,
  • Insulation of the building,
  • Cracks and drafts in walls, doors and windows,
  • The outside temperature and wind chill,
  • Your ability to move the heat around the space.
What size chimney do I need for my Fireview?

The Fireview is designed to operate on a 6” round chimney, ideally between fifteen and twenty feet high (from the flue boot to the point of exit at the top of the chimney). A larger pipe requires more energy to heat and may not draft adequately. A shorter chimney will not draft as well, and a taller chimney may overfire the stove. (A butterfly damper can be installed in the pipe to allow you to control the draft.)

What materials is the Fireview made of?
  • The cooktop is thick reinforced steel.
  • The fire door, ash door and ash catch are cast iron.
  • The oven and lower warmer door are cast aluminum.
  • The rest of the stove body is steel.
The bypass damper (on the left rear of the cooktop) jams, especially when the stove is hot. How do I fix this?
  • The flue boot is installed too low and the damper rod is jamming on the boot.
  • Remove the flue boot and re-install it with the square hole in the top right of the boot lining up exactly with the square secondary air tube in the back of the stove.
The side dampers (air controls) stick when the stove is hot. How do I fix this?

Loosen the three rows of seven screws holding the damper in place by about ¾ of a turn.

The left cabinet bracket is preventing the left cooktop from lifting. How do I fix this?

Loosen the two bolts holding the bracket in place. Twist the bracket away from the cooktop and re-tighten the bolts.

I can’t get my oven hot enough, and other heating and smoking issues.

Refer to “Trouble-Shooting” on page 29 of the owner’s manual.

How do I clean the Nickel trim on my cookstove?

Spills and splashes, especially acidic liquids like tomato sauce, should be wiped up immediately. Tarnish and stains in the nickel can be removed with Maas or Autosol; available online or in hardware or automotive supply stores.

How do I clean the painted surfaces on my cookstove?

The painted surfaces can be cleaned with warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not use abrasive scrubbers or cleansers on painted surfaces. Apply automotive wax such as Turtle Wax to keep them shiny.

Can I get copper or brass trim on my cookstove?

Unfortunately, not. The copper and brass trims on our Heritage appliances are coated with clear lacquer to resist tarnishing. The lacquer would not stand up to the heat produced by the cookstove, and without the lacquer the copper and brass would be tarnished quickly by the heat.

How do I clean the glass in the Fireview door?

You may notice that there is no gasket across the top of the glass. This allows clean air to enter the firebox down over the glass during a hot fire, creating an “air wash”. Any fine ash can be removed from the glass with a damp cloth and a bit of ash, or with a commercial woodstove glass cleaner. Heavier buildups can be removed with a razor window scraper. Allow the stove to cool before cleaning the glass.

How can I clean the cooktop?

The cooktops are made of thick steel. They will blacken as the carbon is heated out of the steel; first in the hottest part of the cooktop and eventually more evenly across the entire surface.
If you wish to occasionally restore the original patina, you can remove the plates and sand them with an orbital sander and medium grit sandpaper. Alternatively, you can create an even dark patina with stove black polish.

Will the cooktop rust?

There should not be significant rusting during frequent use. If you are not going to be using the stove for an extended period of time, especially in humid environments, wipe the cooktops with a fine coating of vegetable oil. There will be some smoking during the first firing afterwards.

How big is the oven on the Fireview?

The oven is 3.0 cubic feet. The small oven door is deceptive – the oven is very deep, and can accommodate two medium roasting pans or large casserole dished back-to-back. And, unlike a conventional oven, the rack can be placed directly on the floor of the oven, allowing for tall items like large turkeys.

What size logs will the Fireview accommodate?

The firebox is 22” deep, so it will easily accommodate 18” wood.

How much does the Fireview weigh and how is it packed / shipped?

Depending on the model, about 430 to 470 pounds. It’s bolted to a skid for shipping. The flue boot is screwed to the skid and the upper cabinet is packed in a box on the cooktop. For moving into the house or cabin, you can get the carry weight down to about 150 pounds by removing the cooktops, firebrick (packed in a box in the firebox, fire grate, ash pan, doors, flue boot and upper cabinet.
